I traveled to Paris in the summer of 2006. Of the many amazing places that I visited, the one that I remember most fondly is the Parc des Buttes Chaumont. The park was built in a former industrial site that hosted a waste dump and a rock quarry. In the 1860’s it was transformed into an amazing green space that is, to this day, treasured by Parisians and visitors alike. I better understood the elements that make a liveable city after visiting the Parc des Buttes Chaumont.
Saskatoon also has an example of a former brownfield site that has been converted into a great public space – River Landing. This space allows residents to enjoy the beautiful river valley that runs through our fair city. Our river valley is one of our greatest assets and it serves well in making Saskatoon a very liveable city.
